Pre-Halloween

Dan has Halloween off for the first time in a long time. So today I made a brownie cake for him to take to work. My idea of a "spooky" graveyard.
Thanks to Jenn for helping me figure out the skeletons!! She's doing one similar for her hubbie to take to work. I must say that I stole the idea from her. Hers will be a bit different though. Anyway...lots of chocolate. Should help the guys at work stay awake in the wee hours of the morning!!
HAPPY PRE-HALLOWEEN!

She's A Big Girl Now!

I decided to let Paige try her hand at eating at the boy's table. We pulled it out because our table is currently covered in yards of fabric and my sewing machine. It's costume making time. But anyway...since there is no room at the regular table for us to eat, I pulled out the boy's table and Paige acted like she wanted to eat there too. So I let her. As you can see, she's a very happy girl. I guess I'm going to have to put away her high chair and let her sit at this table for meals from now on. I can't believe she's getting so big!!

Mema and Papa came out for a visit last week. The weather was crummy in the beginning but got better as the week progressed. It was nice to see them. We haven't seen them since last year right after Paige was born. She's a lot bigger now and so are the boys. I even think they grew while my parents were here. Here are a few pictures from their visit! We love you mema and papa!!!!

Cake Contest

I used cut out fondant shapes for this one.

I was SSSOOO proud of how this one turned out.
I decided to get a little wild and crazy and enter the American Cake Decorator's (amateur) magazine cake decorating contest. You can't be a pro and well since I'm far from it, I decided to enter. I also talked my friend Jenn from work to enter as well. There were 4 categories you could choose from and I chose children's cakes. I figured that would give the broadest range of ideas. So I decided on these designs. Under the Sea and Over the Moon. We had to choose from an 8inch round, 1/4 sheet and a 2D cake. I stuck with the easiest two-the round and 1/4 sheet cake. You also had to send in 3 pictures of other cakes you have done. I sent in the wedding cake I did for my niece, Seth's 2nd birthday elephant cake, and Keegan's 3rd birthday 3D Thomas cake. I liked those the best. Anyway......the winners won't be chosen until February so I won't know for a while. Needless to say I'll be on pins and needles until then. I doubt I'll win, i'm just hoping to have my cakes pictured in the magazine.
We'll see what happens. I mailed in my submission today so it's official!

One reason we love our Prophet

President Hinckley has the best sense of humor ever. This picture was in the Deseret Morning News this past Sunday. After Pres. Eyering was called as the new member of the 1st presidency, President Hinckley (after doing the sustainings) turned around and acted like he was "knighting" Pres. Eyering. I LOVE IT!!! (thanks to Jillyn for giving me the idea to post it!)

When in Rome

This is me being bored and lacking the motivation to do just about anything right now even though there are about a million and one different things I need to be doing!

You Belong in Rome

You're a big city soul with a small town heart
Which is why you're attracted to the romance of Rome
Strolling down picture perfect streets, cappuccino in hand
And gorgeous Italian people - could life get any better?

minus the cappuccino that just about does it.

Salt Flats

Just behind us and to the right is where the speed trials actually take place. (like my hunter orange sweater?)

The wind was blowing so hard it was hard to keep the camera still, so the pics are a little blurry. Plus Keegan was moving at the time so that didn't help.

Poor Seth is freezing.

Paige wasn't sure what to make of it, and no that's not snow, it's salt. Lots and lots of salt as far as the eye can see.

Pretty. But don't lick your lips after getting back into your car. You'll taste the salt. Nasty!

The official "I have to take a picture of the sign" picture.

Today we decided to take an afternoon drive. It was nice because we could still listen to General Conference on the radio (another perk about living in Utah). So we drove out to the Bonneville Salt Flats. And for those that don't know.....not only is it a terribly BORING drive it's a LLLOOONNNGGGGG drive and it's where the speed trials take place every year AND if you've seen the 3rd Pirates of the Carribean movie, there's a scene that was filmed out there. Fun stuff!! Took us about 1.5 hours. But it was fun. We stopped and got lunch and ate on the way. I've never been out there and Dan wanted to do for a drive so we just kind of went west and that's where we ended up.

Nursery Ryhme Recital

Seth had his nursery rhyme recital at school today. His class has been learning various rhymes and they were encouraged to memorize them. Then today each child got to stand up (parents were invited) in front of everyone and recite their nursery rhyme. I am so proud of Seth. He memorized it earlier in the week and had no problems at all in standing up and giving it. His nursery rhyme was HEY DIDDLE DIDDLE, THE CAT AND THE FIDDLE, THE COW JUMPED OVER THE MOON. THE LITTLE DOG LAUGHED TO SEE SUCH A SPORT AND THE DISH RAN AWAY WITH THE SPOON.
