First Day of School

Seth's first day of school. August 29, 2007. He is in half day kindergarten . I have been dreading this day for so long, but it turned out to be ok. It really helped that he was so excited about going. He has been beside himself for a month now and to have him finally going it nice. He LOVES it and is so far having a wonderful time. He has a really great teacher, Miss Burningham. We actually got to meet her earlier and Dan said that Seth didn't realize how lucky he was to have such a HOT teacher! *Sigh* Men never grow up do they!! haha
Anyway....Seth is so grown up now. I was also very proud of myself. I didn't cry although I thought very strongly about it.
We'll be taking him and picking him up every day. I'm so glad he's excited about school. I hope he'll always be this excited!

Huntington Cake

My friend Sarina volunteered me to do some cakes for Huntington Learning Center. They just opened a new center in Murray and she works there. Her boss was talking about getting some cakes from Wal-Mart to take to some of the local schools to try and drum up some business. So Sarina told her boss to call me instead. So I got a cake order for 10 cakes. Just basic cakes, but oh my!!! Luckily they weren't all due the same day. 5 on Monday and 5 more on Tuesday. By the time I was finished I was up to my armpits in cake and buttercream frosting. :O) But I got paid for them so it was all good. I did the logo on edible sugar paper and then piped the rest of it. I wasn't about to do the logo free-hand. I'm not that good. Besides I liked the idea of the sugar paper. I found out later that the teachers have all enjoyed them. I just made a basic marble cake with white and green buttercream frosting.

Stake Fair

The Murray West Utah Stake held it's annual Stake Fair on August 25. Each ward was supposed to come up with a booth and then the stake activities would provide hot dogs, nachos, slushies, popcorn and water. It was about a billion degrees that day (actually it was closer to 102-ug!). Our ward (Jefferson Ward) had a face painting booth and that seemed to be the hit! Hooray!!!! That made me feel good since I am the ward activities chairman. So hoorah for last minute ideas! They also had some bean bag tosses, yard golf, a candy cannon, a radar gun/baseball throw, and train rides. It was mostly for the kids but it looked like everyone was having fun. For the adults there was a watermelon eating contest and a dunking booth. I brought the boys and we had a good time. I even got a little sunburned but it was all worth it!

New Temples

The church is building 2 new temples in Utah. One located in Draper and another in an area called Daybreak. It's a major subdivision and we won't be surprised if it gets it's own city lisence here soon.
We took a Sunday drive to check out the building sites. It's been a while coming, these were announced almost 2 years ago. It's exciting to watch them progress.

They only have partial walls up for the Daybreak Temple.

The view is really pretty from here. You can see a good portion of the southern part of the Salt Lake Valley.

The Draper Temple is going to be huge!!!! From this site you can see the entire Salt Lake Valley. It's pretty high up on the mountain side. Aboslutely goregous!

This is one good thing about living in Utah. The opportunity to visit so many temples in a short area. With these 2 new additions there will be a total of 4 temples just in the Salt Lake Valley. I love the thought of being able to pick and choose which one to attend. We are looking forward to their open houses and seeing them completed. We are hoping by next Spring for the Draper and we aren't even sure about the Daybreak. Maybe this time next year....

Memories of DBSH

I got this from a fellow Byrd alum. It brought back so many memories of school that I had forgotten. It has been 14 years *gasp!* since I graduated.


u know u went to byrd if:

-always make it to a Byrd vs. South View game even if you never made it to any other game
-you knew that Paroli ruled the school so true, so true
-you have ever been to every lunch in one day
-you've ever chilled in the band room and were never in band actually it was the orchestra room
-you actually enjoyed chillin outside during the bomb threats there was atleast one a month
-you ever dreaded going to Mrs. Perry or Mrs. Snellgrooves class the mere mention of their names instilled fear in every student....
-when you think about Mrs. Perry's class you can hear her country voice saying "What color is that white horse"
-at lunch you either got a chicken sandwich with fries, pizza with fries or just chicken wings almost every day the bbq sandwich wasn't too bad either
-you ever thought to yourself that it seemed like everyone was in TV broadcasting most everyone I knew was in tv broadcasting....
-you ever wondered why we never really had a school dance or party i thought it was lame that we didn't have any dances and the ones (other than prom) that we did have were awful
-after people asked you what school you went to and you said Byrd they would always have something to say which was mostly bad we didn't the reputation of being the 2nd worst school in the county for nothing!
-you hated ridin the bus because there were so many students from the middle school in your way
-you got mad when they locked the gate near the parking lot and you had to drive to the front of the school that was SSSOOOO frustrating!!!
-you remember Deputy Dukes
-You got caught in The Sweep
-you walked past a fight as if it wasn't even happening daily occurances...no one really noticed anymore
-Went to the football games just to walk around or roll down the hill good times! good times!
-Understand what Cut and Dry means
-Never figured out why people always went to the Woods to skip
-Actually figured out why people always went to the Woods to skip
-Didn't know there was en elevator
-Told new freshman there was a pool under the gym floor or anywhere else for that matter.
-wondered why only white people hung out in the pit
-you remember Mr. Porter's big bottle-cap glasses
-you was an underclassmen, and you skipped school on senior skip day
-you played spades the whole last week of school
-wondered what was the deal with Mr. Renfro and his scar on his face that looked like an A+
-thought Mr. Wright was weird, yet funny
-wondered why Mr. Macaltao walked funny
-you had gym class every period.

Paige's Birthday

We held Paige's birthday a little after she actually turned one becuase of work schedules. Wehad a small gathering of friends and Grandma Margot and Lynn (dan's mom and her husband). It was fun, we had a spaghetti dinner and then cake and ice cream. Thanks to all that came!!

Bears and trains....oh my!

She bugs the heck out of her brothers when she steals their toys and plays with them. She loves this little train of Keegan's because it makes noise.

Pooh Bear and Garfield

Keegan sleeps with Pooh bear and Garfield stuffed animals. I think it's great because his Mema and Papa (my mom and daddy) bought them for me when I was little. Pooh I got when I was a baby (notice he is now without appearal) and Garfield was purchased on one of my dad's trips to Korea (or was it the Sinai-I can't really remember) while in the Army. They have both weathered some great moments with me and it really warms my heart that he's taken to them so fondly. He can't go to bed without knowing where they both are. I love it!

Cake -2

I had my first paying cake customer last weekend. I've been trying to start a cake business for a while now. Basically i've been doing cakes for friends to get the practice. Well my friend Sarina (big thanks for this one!!!) told a co-worker about my cakes and she decided to order one. I basically charged what it cost to make it so I could get more practice. But it's still my first paying customer and from what I heard she loved the cake. It was for her daughter's 6th birthday. It was to be a princess party and she loves the color pink. So I found a tiara and made that the focus of the cake. It was a white cake with a strawberry filling. 4 layers high. I covered it in pink buttercream frosting and sugar crystals. It was hard to keep the boys away from it! Obviously I still have a long way to go, but with my work at a bakery and the stuff I do on the side (Paige's birthday cake is next) i'll be where I want to be with my decorating and designing in no time!

Turning Around

About a week or so ago (July 30, 2007 to be exact) we decided that Paige was close enough to her 1st birthday that we could turn her car seat around. She has been a changed little girl since that event. Now that she can see mom and dad and see what's going on around her, she is sssoooo happy.

Today is our little girl's birthday. I can't believe she's one. It feels (just like it did for the boys) that I just brought her home from the hospital. Here's a picture from when she was first born.....can't believe it's already been a year!! She is truly our little ray of princess sunshine. And she's all girl. Even at this age, she's all girl. It's so funny to watch. I love having a little girl more than I thought I would and the boys (Seth especially) love having a little sister to torment and play with on occassion. :O) Just a couple of pictures to take me back to when she was first born.

At Last

I finally finished the book. It took me about a week to get through it. So many questions were answered. Ted at work thinks that JK Rowling left it wide open for a sequel. I have mixed emotions about that. She said once that this one would be the last, yet there is room for speculation. So I guess all there is to do now is wait. I did feel a sense of sorrow when I finished it as my heart sank knowing it was the last one. So sad....but well worth the wait. Now the fun part will be to wait for the movies.
