Upward Soccer

In trying to keep the kids occupied with activities other than video games, we signed Keegan up for soccer. I decided to go with a smaller group instead of the city and it's been a very pleasant experience. It's through one of the local churches and I really like the way they do things. It's very centered on good sportsmanship and keeping a Christ centered heart. (I wish more things were like that). There is competition, but it's not as heavy as it would be in a city league. Practices are once a week and at the end of the practice the coach gathers the team and they have a prayer to keep everyone safe for the coming week. Keegan is really enjoying it so far and I love it because it wears him out on practice nights!  Today was the first game of the season. It was chilly this morning when we left but soon warmed up quite a bit. I even got a slight sun burn on my arms and face. Thank you Arizona.  The game was 4 on 4 and before anyone played they started it off with a scripture and a prayer. Nice.

Keegan started off slow and I attribute that to the fact that he's still getting used to all the running around and plus he was sick earlier in the week. Still trying to get back to 100%. But once he got going he did great. Even prevented the last goal of the game by deflecting it. I think we are going to have a great season!!!

Armoir

Anyone who knows us, knows we've had a tv armoir (beast) for a long time. Well since we lived in Utah. It belonged to Dan's parents and when Margot ran out of room she gave it to us. It's been around for a while and seen many, many days. And been moved several times. This thing was not pretty by any means. It had been colored on, lost all door knobs and the center door was missing the middle piece. It was a wreck-functional, but ugly. I was just looking through a magazine and got an idea. I wanted to redo it and seperate the top from the bottom. The bottom part was fine, just needed another piece of wood to top it off (when the top of the armoir was removed it opened up the bottom.). So I bought the wood and decided on paint colors. Amy came up with the brilliant idea to put the faux metal piece in the middle door. Love it!!!  I adore how it came out!!! Wish I would have done it a long time ago, but at least it's done now!   More to come later on what my plans are for the top of the armoir!

I love the color wonder line of coloring. They now have ones for little hands. I found this at Target and gave it to Bronwyn. She had a great time! Love that smile!! The picture she's coloring got sent to daddy!

It's a Rapunzel Party!! (august 11, 2012)

I have to preface this by, wow-I took a lot of pictures!!!! 117 total to be exact! This is just a smidge of our day!   We invited several friends to come and play. Paige wanted a Rapunzel theme this year so I tried to find lots of good ideas. I got tiaras for all the girls coming and we painted Burger King crowns silver for all the boys (can't leave them out now can we?). Then I went ahead and set the table with them. Lunch was part of the party and I wanted to do that first.  All of her friends came, played games, got their faces painted (thanks to my good friend Kari who rocks at the face painting) and got to whack the pinata. It was a lot of fun and a ton of work, but my girl is totally worth it.

the back drop is just $1 table cloths stapled to the wall. I found the banner on line and made the flower balloon. 

I got the cutouts from a lady who does digital designs online. She made these suns and Paige's name plate especially for us. :)

Since Rapunzel does a lot of painting we got these water color paint sets for the goodie bags. The same gal also made the tags for the paints. awesome!

Bronwyn even got her face painted although it didn't last long. at least she was willing to stand still for it!

 



I also made salt dough sun ornaments for each of the kids to paint and take home. I found a sun cookie cutter in the shape of the sun from the movie.  I bought various colors of paint and let them go at it!

and instead of dealing with a container of ice cream, i bought individual ice cream cups. Less mess and everyone got the exact same amount.  

Keegan participated-Seth stayed in his room and hung out with a friend.

 

Since Rapunzel's weapon against Flynn is a frying pan I figured why not whack the pinata with one. The kids thought that was pretty neat and had a good time putting it out of it's misery.

 

It took several whacks but it finally gave up it's candy!
